Dexter (TV series) --> iCarly

  1. Dexter (TV Series)
Summary: At a young age, about 3, Dexter and his brother were found in a storage container surrounded by blood and dead bodies. Det. Harry Morgan adopted Dexter. As Dexter grew older, Harry realized that Dexter had sociopathic tendencies (which Dexter identified as his "dark passenger"). Dexter had even been caught killing neighborhood pets. Understanding that Dexter would need to escalate- Harry taught Dexter a code. “The Code” stated that whomever Dexter killed needed to be a killer that wouldn’t stop killing and they must be guilty. He learned how to cover up his tracks and to lead separate lives. He later became a forensic blood spatter expert and still followed the Code he learned from Harry. He eventually married a lady named Rita who had two kids: Cody and Astor. Rita and Dexter have a son of their own.

Connections: Dexter Morgan from Dexter (TV Series)

was also in the Dexter (book series). Since there was a big difference in the timing of the events in the two and in Dexters' motivation for killing- the two Dexters' were a prime example of a parallel character.

  1. Dexter Series
Summary: Dexter, once again, was found in a storage container with blood and was adopted by Harry Morgan. Harry trained and taught him a code of conduct. Dexters' adoptive sister Debra learned about his secret life at the end of the first book and sort of helped him or at least turned a blind to it. Dexter met and killed a couple of different murderers. He still married Rita and became a stepfather to Cody and Astor. He also had a daughter with Rita. Dexter even noticed that Cody and Astor were similar to him and he began to train them. Brian, Dexter's brother, even came to live with them. He still called  this need to kill his Dark Passenger.
Connections: In this series, Dexter realized that what caused him to kill was an entity related to Moloch. The Dark Passenger that Dexter was probably one of Moloch’s children.

 Moloch, a demon worshiped in Biblical times, was known for having children sacrificed by fire. Either Moloch himself or a parallel version of him can be found in a Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode called “I Robot, You Jane." He got scanned into a computer, flirted with Willow, and had a robot body built for him.

 In the end, he was “killed” when he punched a power line.

    Connections: Buffy had many different mystical artifacts appear in Sunnydale. One of these was the Orb of Thesulah.

    The orb was said to be used as a vault for the rituals of the undead and could summon a human soul from the ether. In a show called Supernatural- the two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester, come across a necklace that was supposed to contain the orb. It turned out to be a fake.
